At Edible Cups, we are not just reimagining your drinking experience; we’re transforming it into an Edible adventure that’s as good for the planet as it is for your taste buds. Our journey started with a simple yet powerful idea – to create a single-use cup that leaves no trace behind.
What a waste!
Every day, Australians use nearly 2.7 million disposable coffee cups, many of which end up in landfill after just one use. While recycling is often presented as the answer, the reality is much more complicated. Most takeaway cups contain plastic linings that make them difficult to recycle through standard systems, while many compostable alternatives still rely on specialised infrastructure that is not always available.
Governments across Australia have begun banning single-use plastics, creating an urgent need for practical alternatives that genuinely reduce waste rather than simply managing it differently.
It Started With a Question
When we looked at the waste problem, we realised most alternatives still ended with something being thrown away. Whether it was plastic, paper, compostable, or recyclable, the product still became waste at the end of its life. So we asked ourselves a different question:
What if the cup never became waste at all?
That idea became Edible Cups. We wanted to create something that didn’t just replace disposables, but rethought them entirely. A cup that could hold your coffee and then become part of the experience itself. Something practical, enjoyable, and designed for the real world.
The Way We See It
Our mission is to make sustainability feel natural, engaging, and easy to adopt. We believe reducing waste should not mean compromising convenience or experience. That’s why our edible cups are designed for hot and cold drinks, made from plant-based ingredients, and created to help reduce reliance on single-use disposables in cafés, workplaces, events, and everyday life.
Beyond the product itself, we’re building something bigger: a shift in how people think about waste. Because the most sustainable product isn’t the one that gets recycled better. It’s the one that never becomes waste in the first place.
